I founded JDS Development Group in 2002 and I have run it since. The firm develops, builds and acquires, and it works in New York City and Miami. That sentence covers the facts and almost none of what the last two decades have actually consisted of.

This site is the background rather than the argument. The buildings are documented in their own right, and the technical subjects I write about have their own home. What is here is the longer view: how the work has gone, how the firm came to be organized the way it is, what the portfolio looks like when you line it up in order, and where the writing appears.

I should say plainly what this site does not contain. There is nothing here about how I came to development in the first place, and nothing about schooling. Both would require me to supply facts I have not put on the record anywhere, and I would rather leave a gap than fill it with something approximate. If that changes, the pages will appear.

What I can describe is the shape of the work, which has been remarkably consistent. It is always a piece of ground that resists being built on, and a long argument with everything that makes it resist. That has held through restoration and new construction, through two cities, and through buildings with nothing visually in common.

JDS has always held its acquisition, development and construction capability in one place rather than contracting between them. That was decided at the outset and more follows from it than from anything else about the firm.
